Description

"Our vision is a Tuberculosis free world: The first children born this millennium will see TB eliminated in their lifetime" Stop TB

Stop TB is a global movement to accelerate social and political action to stop the spread of tuberculosis around the world.

Stop TB is a partnership. Public and private organizations from the global to the local level work together and they all underwrite the same principles and values. Research institutions, industry and donors all have a role to play. Stop TB partners on the ground include international agencies, government and non-government organizations and civil society.

Relationship between Stop TB Global Partnership and IFMSA

IFMSA became a full member of the Stop TB Global Partnership during autumn 2002, as decided at the IFMSA EBM I in London (10/2002). IFMSA is listed among the Stop TB partners and has access to the Stop TB Partners' database.

Earlier the same year, the Standing Committee of Public Health was represented in the 33rd Annual IUATLD - International Union Against TB and Lung Diseases, France- conference held in Montreal (grant offered by the IUATLD to IFMSA in order to have better knowledge as regard the partnership, its goals, vision and mission).

IFMSA experience in the field of TB: The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) kept on organizing relating activities through the years (the First Annual International "Stop TB" Workshop was organized in Alexandria Egypt in 2000 in collaboration with WHO-EMRO, IUATLD, UNICEF office in Egypt, Rotary Alex- Elnozha. The Second Annual International "Stop TB" Workshop was organized in Iasi, Romania May 200. Both of the conferences were under the patronage of IFMSA-SCOPH -Standing Committee On Public Health. During World TB Day 2001 the WTD 01 package was sent to all NPOs to promote the anti-tuberculosis work.)

Many other local, national and international initiatives and actions were adopted by IFMSA worldwide against TB.

As a result of all IFMSA anti tuberculosis related projects, the "IFMSA SCOPH Anti TB Campaign" was initiated in August 2003.
