Hey to all of the eVagus readers this month!
I'm taking this month's issue as a chance to introduce myself... My name is Neil Basing and I'm from Medsin-UK. Myself, and Nicole, have joined the publications team and we both plan to work hard in bringing to you an informative, exciting and fantastic eVagus!
So, what do I do?! Well, I'm a local president at University College London and I'm the London Coordinator for Medsin-UK... makes me a kind of mini-VPI for London. I have a fair amount of experience in working on different publications. The role of London Coordinator involves writing for the London Medical Student newspaper on a monthly basis about Medsin activities, topics and news. Before this, I edited a newsletter in sixth form college, completed courses in journalism
and creative writing and I have an A-Level in English Literature. I even created a school magazine when I was in junior school! Some other facts about me... I'm interested in Reproductive Health and AIDS, love to party (some of you may know this already!) and I'm addicted to trashy television!
Why do I want to work in publications? Because I believe publications are a great way of informing people about what's going on in the IFMSA, other NMOs and around the world. Publications can be truly effective in delivering global health education on a huge scale and, through them, we can share ideas, thoughts and experiences. I have been to two IFMSA General Assemblies now, Macedonia and Turkey, and eVagus is one way of sharing such an experience, as well as other experiences
people have in their own countries, when taking part in an international project or running a successful campaign.
However, one of our goals is to give eVagus a bigger sense of appeal to local branches of NMOs, not just for those people who attend IFMSA meetings. We all began working in local committees and wouldn't it be great to use this unique publication as a resource for everyone involved in the IFMSA around the world.
So, if you would like to get involved, contact Akihito or myself (london-at-medsin.org) and help us make eVagus the magazine you really want!
Hope to hear from many of you in the future and meet some of you in Egypt,
Neil Basing
