Bologna Process Update Workshop 6-10th July 2006, Bristol, UK

The Bologna Process has been developed to create a European Higher Education Area. Since 2003, the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) and European Medical Students' Association (EMSA) have organised meetings and workshops to discuss the implementation of the Bologna Process in medical education. Their workshops and training led to the first policy papers on the Bologna process in medical education and nowadays these are recognised by all stakeholders as a basis for further discussion.

The 2006 IFMSA/EMSA workshop on the European Core Curriculum has the potential to have a further impact on the work developing on the Bologna Process in medical education. Co-operation and collaboration on a European level is of vital importance to the implementation of the Bologna Process.

Venue: Bristol, England

Topic: The European Core Curriculum

We will be discussing current updates on the Bologna Process, focusing on the implementation of a European core Curriculum. Talks from external speakers, workshops and discussion groups will result in the development of a policy statement. Previous documents have been used by external organisations to influence the implementation of the Bologna Process as a whole.

The aim of the conference is to develop a policy statement on a European Core Curriculum. Our objectives are:

  • To discuss and evaluate the implications of a European Core Curriculum, incorporating management of any potential negative implications
  • To outline core competencies for medical education
  • To appreciate the rich and diverse cultures and traditions within Europe and strengthen the co-operation between European medical students
  • To communicate our findings with wider stakeholders, and provide a basis for further collaboration
