The SCORA EXCHANGE program aims to provide medical students with theoretical knowledge and practical work concerning HIV/AIDS. This will be achieved through lectures, laboratory work and direct contact with HIV infected children and with people living with AIDS (PLWA).
This project was developed for the first time in Sweden and from 1999 is being held also in Romania.
SCORA EXCHANGE grew up to be a very interesting exchange program and SCORA Poland liked the idea of having such a program, in conclusion SCORA Romania and Poland made it a transnational project.
Since 2002 this project was well promoted and other countries shoed their interest in joining it.
Last year in 2004 the project was a success in Greece and Hungary, two new countries that joined it.
In each country that organizes SCORA Exchange the specific of the program is different, based on the problems that country in facing in the field of reproductive health and HIV/AIDS:
Greece: the project is organized in one city, personal contact, testing procedures, SCORA activities-peer education
Hungary: Visiting hospitals, HIV/STD treatment, screening tests, SCORA activities-peer education, Youth Festival, visiting refugee camp, Red Light District
Poland: STD/HIV, testing procedures, seeing HIV infected patients in the hospital
Romania: "Children, AIDS and Medical Students", visiting hospitals, lectures and seminaries related to HIV treatment/testing, seeing people living with HIV/AIDS, round tables with social workers, NMO's visiting, SCORA activities-peer education
Sweden: Testing procedures, seminars on working with HIV patients and i.v. drug abusers, prevention strategies, legislation, epidemiology NGO's, seminars on HIV-research, HIV and STD prevention among youths, a general perspective, ethics, SCORA peer education project on sexual health among youths
In 2005 Turkey will start SCORA Exchange and its specific will be: to provide its participants with clinical and laboratory experience on the subject of STDs including AIDS. HIV/AIDS treatment and learning more about it.
We are hoping that in a short time all the countries will join this project and will make it more complex and attractive.
