How to apply for research exchanges

1. General

Check if there is a member organisation in your country. If there is one check if they have a office in your university. If there is a office in your unversity contact the LORE.

2. Finding a Project

Go to the IFMSA web site http://www.ifmsa.org/score/projects.php to see project descriptions and then choose three projects.

3. Exchange Conditions

Read Exchange Conditions carefully to ensure you meet requirements. Ask your LORE for help if needed.

4. Application Form

Write Clearly in Block letters and make sure that ALL lines are completed. Otherwise your application cannot be processed. Make sure that your application is complete, containing all necessary photos and documents (language certificate, motivation letter for each project, recommendation letter and CV) as outlined in the Exchange Booklet of your host country.

5. Letter of Motivation

You should prepare a specific one for each project. It should include the following:

This letter has to be addressed to the tutor of the desired project, not to the exchange committee. Therefore the letter should be clean, official and clear. It should be typed in English or in the native language of the outgoing students' chosen country. The letter should include at least the following items:

  • Why do you want to do a research abroad?
  • Why do you want to go to that particular country for a research?
  • What do you expect from your research?
  • Specify your interest in the chosen research.
  • What would you like to do during your research?
  • Do you have any practical experience? (Gained for example during electives at your home university/hospital, laboratory work, work as an assistant at your home hospital or paramedical experience)
  • Describe as good as possible your theoretical knowledge, especially concerning the field in which you would like to do your research, studied literature, study books, etc.

6. Curriculum Vitae

It should include:

  • First Name
  • Family Name
  • Date
  • Address
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Education
  • Language Skills
  • Work Experience
  • Relevant Skills
  • Interests

7. Letter of Recommendation

It should be written by a professor/tutor who could vouch for your hard working personality and numerous capabilities.

8. Deadlines

Follow the deadlines stated on the exchange conditions otherwise your Application Form won't be processed.
