Introduction

At an international level, Standing Committee on human Rights and Peace is coordinated by a director. SCORP Director is elected by the General Assembly of IFMSA. He/She reports to the General Assembly twice a year, in March and August. In a National Member Organisations (NMO), SCORP is represented by a National Officer on human Rights and Peace (NORP). In a local committee, a Local Officer on human Rights and Peace (LORP) is taking care of these responsibilities.

SCORP Director

The main tasks of the director is co-ordinating the activities undertaken by the different NMO's and representing SCORP and IFMSA to external organisations and within IFMSA. The director is merely the one to have the overview of what is being done, what has been done and what will be done, so that he/she can give advice and facilitate communication between SCORP members and others.

Regional Assistant

Regional SCORP Assistants are appointed by the director. They coordinate activities in a certain region together with him/her. The tasks of a regional Assistant are, as follow:

  • To keep in contact with SCORP-groups in a certain region. They identify problems and give support to these groups with regard to the management of a group and its projects.

  • To coordinate regional projects, establish regional priorities and develop regional plans of actions.   

  • To organising regional SCORP training or keep in contact with the OC of the SRT (Sub-regional Training);

  • To facilitating regional meetings within or between the General Assemblies of IFMSA.

  • To keep in contact with regional partners, for instance regional medical students' associations.

IFMSA Liaison Officer for Human Rights and Peace

The Liaison Officer for Human Rights and Peace Issues represents IFMSA in its entirety to external organizations such as IFMSA's partners; UNHCR & IPPNW. The Liaison Officers represent IFMSA to external partners, maintain communication, support IFMSA projects and make IFMSA aware of potential avenues of collaboration. The role of the LO for Human Rights and Peace is to maintain communication with the organizations and agencies that are related to refugee health, peace and human rights. Liaison Officers work not only as part of the IFMSA Officials team, but also closely with the IFMSA President, with the Standing Committee Director/s and within the group of Liaison Officers.

National Officer on human Rights and Peace (NORP)

A National Officer on human Rights and Peace organise and coordinate national activities. Depending on the National Member Organisation and the size of national SCORP-group, national officer can have coordinating role or a more practical function. National officers report four times per year, twice in an informal and two times in a formal way. Informal reports are submitted by the end of November and April to ifmsa-scorp@yahoogroups.com. Formal reports should be sent by 1st February and 1st July, prior to the General Assemblies of IFMSA, to the director.

Local Officer on human Rights and Peace (LORP)

Depending on the size of the national SCORP-group, NMO's can have local officers. They coordinate local activities. They are often the ones to arrange lectures, meetings and other events in their cities and universities. Depending on the national structure, local officers will report to their national officer. Also, they are always welcome to turn to the director.
